Ester, a Bristol-based ceramicist, began pottery two years ago as a creative outlet when her wildlife filming projects slowed. She quickly fell in love with throwing and is fascinated by the chemistry behind glazing, experimenting to create unique colours during firing.
Her work is primarily functional kitchenware – at the moment it’s mugs and bowls but will be expanding to other kitchen items soon – and is uniquely ‘Ester’ in its design: either through the body shape, the handle shape or the glaze colours. She loves blues and greens and tries as much as possible to incorporate her love and experiences in nature and with wildlife into her pottery as possible.
Because of her background in conservation, Ester aims to minimise waste: all excess clay is reclaimed, and imperfect pieces aren’t fired. She is also exploring eco-friendly glaze ingredients to make her practice more sustainable.
