It’s Indie Friday! This week’s guest: Sian Rosier of Windmill Hill City Farm

Every Friday, I share with you an interview asking independent champions to share with us their love for small brands and indie shops. This week’s guest is Sian Rosier, Events Assistant at Windmill Hill City Farm. Have a read!

If you are interested in sharing your love for indie, please contact Geraldine.

Please introduce yourself and tell us what you’re up to at the moment

I’m Sian, I work at Windmill Hill City Farm as the Events Assistant, helping to deliver the summer events programme, which includes music, theatre and comedy. Plans for the autumn and winter are starting to build with lots of exciting things to come.

One day a week I work as market manager at Finzel’s Reach Market, I love the working alongside all the traders and of course getting to eat all the yummy food each week.

Please tell us why you love shopping with independent businesses

I love the unique element of the products. Being a hobbyist maker myself, I understand the time and thought put into each product.

I really enjoy talking to the people who make the items and hearing the stories how the products came about. Getting a sense of why and how something has been made makes me enjoy using/wearing it more.

Have you got favourite indie makers and brands you’d like to share with us?

I find it really hard to pick! So here are my most recent, and hopefully future purchases.

My most recent purchase was a pair of earrings from Crane Jewellery, they are silver and brass hoops, and they are so great to wear every day.

The silver jewellery from Bethany May Silver, such beautiful unique designs. I can’t wait to get my hands on a ring of hers.

I love Mooke’s skin care products; they always smell and feel great.

I love colour and pattern, and it is something that draws me into businesses and market stalls. I currently have my eyes on a dress from Hello Cleo.

Do you shop at markets or indie shops? If so, please let us know which ones and why you love them?

Working at markets means I often visit markets, I love them. I grew up in a market town and shopped in charity shops and this has stayed with me. M32 Flea Market is close to where I live so I will always pop down and have a look at what’s on offer that month.

I really love BAM Store & Space in Easton; I often will pop in as I am walking past to have a look at what is there. There is such a great mix of items and for all ages, I find it hard to not buy something every time I am in there.

I am so excited for the Windmill Hill Market which launches on September 24th, there is going to be a great collection of high-quality handmade goods, beautiful prints, cards and original artwork, vintage clothes and homewares and street food.

About Sian Rosier

I love being in the outdoors! When not working at the farm, markets or events you can find me dancing, making pots, knitting, growing my own food or swimming.
